Have you ever wondered what are the weapons of spiritual warfare? When you are battling for the peace of your home, it is easy to feel completely outmatched and exhausted—like you brought a plastic butter knife to a heavyweight spiritual sword fight. If you are desperate to know how to effectively protect yourself and your family from the enemy's attacks, you are in the exact right place!

In this episode of the Arise Women of God podcast, host Tamara K. Anderson sits down with ministry leader and battle-tested mama, Amy Johnson. Together, they expose the adversary's sneaky trick of making us fight our own family members instead of the real enemy. Amy shares a powerful, vulnerable story of realizing her husband was actually her greatest ally during a severe spiritual attack.

Tamara dives into the ultimate weapon we have: Jesus Christ. Discover seven powerful, combat-ready provisions you unlock when you yoke yourself to the Savior. Finally, learn how to weaponize the Word of God for every stage of motherhood—from praying with toddlers to dropping scriptural truths with teens, to focusing on your own spiritual transformation when dealing with adult children. Stop acting out of fear and step into your identity as a warrior of light!

Episode Takeaways

  • The Weapon of Discernment: The enemy often tricks us into believing our spouse or children are the source of our pain. We must stop fighting our greatest earthly assets and recognize the true spiritual enemy.
  • The Weapon of the Savior: Jesus Christ is our ultimate defense. By yoking ourselves to Him, we unlock divine strength (Philippians 4:13), the power of repentance (Isaiah 1:18), rest for our souls (Matthew 11:28-30), and angelic protection (Psalm 34:7).
  • The Weapon of the Word: Learn the "language of God" by chewing on the scriptures. Use the Word differently for each season: read with littles, recall verses with teens, and use the scriptures to change yourself (rather than preaching out of fear) when your kids are adults.
  • Faith Over Fear: Fear is a tool of Satan. When we obsess over our fears for our children, we accidentally fight for the wrong side. Focus on your own faith in Christ and personal transformation.

Reflection Questions

  • Have you ever fallen into the trap of attacking your spouse or children, mistaking them for the enemy instead of recognizing a spiritual attack?
  • Which of the seven combat-ready provisions of Jesus Christ (strength, rest, forgiveness, angelic backup, etc.) do you need to lean on the most right now?
  • How can you shift from parenting out of fear (which is of the adversary) to parenting with faith by "chewing" on the Word of God?

Hey, my friend, have you ever wondered what are the weapons of spiritual warfare?

Because you're battling for your home, but perhaps you feel completely outmatched and exhausted, like you're bringing a plastic butter knife to a heavyweight spiritual sword fight. This is an overwhelming challenge because you want to know how to effectively protect yourself and your family from the enemy's spiritual attacks.

Well, don't give up hope.

By the end of today's episode, you will know how to identify your true allies, how to weaponize the scriptures for your children at every age, and how to use the ultimate spiritual weapon. Stay tuned. Ordinary women extraordinary faith. When God calls, we say yes. Hello and welcome to the Arise Women of God podcast.

I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson and I'm so thrilled to be joined today by Amy Johnson, who is an amazing mom and grandma, a wonderful ministry leader and a battle tested warrior of light who has walked through the fire of helping loved ones heal from addiction. And she is going to share her practical deep wisdom with us today as we talk all about the weapons of spiritual warfare.

Here's our layout for today's episode. First, we're going to talk about the weapon of discernment, unmasking who the true enemy is and how he tricks us.

Second, we're going to talk about the weapon of the Savior and we're going to take a deep dive look at Jesus and how being yoked to him helps us unlock seven powerful combat ready provisions.

Third, we're going to discuss the weapon of the word of God that you can apply and use with everyone from toddler age, teens and even with your independent adult children and spouse. But first, let's kick it off by talking about our very first weapon, that of discernment on the battlefield.

So often when a spiritual attack hits us and our family, the enemy tricks us into looking at our spouse or our kids as the source of our pain. Let's listen as Amy shares a powerful, vulnerable story of how she was spirit beating her husband instead of fighting the real enemy.

Amy Johnson

I was under a severe spiritual attack 10 years ago now and I remember feeling like my husband was causing so many problems for me. Like I felt like he was the cause of the spiritual attack.

And I one day knelt down and was just sobbing, just crying out to the Lord and he just softly said, he's the only light in your world right now about my husband. And I was like, huh? Like, how could that be? That doesn't, that does not match what I'm sure I was feeling.

And at that time I realized that he was using me to spirit be to put Blair under spiritual attack. Because I was positive in the spiritual attack I was under that Blair he was the enemy, so to speak. And it was not true.

So I think sometimes the person that is my first thought hates me and attacks me is actually my biggest ally.

And so I actually have started to learn to look for resources and support in unlikely places because I've really learned that the adversary absolutely wants me to turn against my biggest asset.

Well, my friends, that is a massive wake up call for all of us.

The person we may be attacking is often our greatest earthly asset, but once we stop fighting each other, we can look to the greatest weapon we have in our Jesus Christ. In Romans, chapter 8, verse 34, the apostle Paul writes, who is he that condemneth?

It is Christ that died, yea, rather that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Wow, my friends, as we are yoked to the Savior, he makes intercession for us and he has a massive armory of spiritual tools and weapons that he can open up to us. Here are seven that I picked for today's episode to talk about. First, when we feel weak, we can lean on him for supernal strength.

This verse can be found in Philippians chapter 4, verse 13, where it says, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Second, when we are weighed down by the bondage of sin, we can be made clean through the power of repentance and forgiveness as promised in Isaiah, chapter 1, verse 18. Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Powerful weapon to remember.

Weapon number three when we are entirely exhausted, we can yoke ourselves to him and he will help us pull that heavy load with us. I love the verses that talk about this in Matthew, chapter 11, verses 28 through 30.

Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon me and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Beautiful reminder of yoking ourselves to the Savior. Number four. Tool to use when we feel unworthy or when the enemy throws shameful thoughts at us, we can cling to Jesus Christ.

Open invitation to come unto him, and this is mentioned all throughout the New Testament.

Simply come the adversary wants to stop us from coming unto him, so he'll place lies in your head like you've made too many mistakes, you're unworthy he doesn't love you anymore. You've broken too many commandments. But I want you at that time to cling to the tool of remembering to come.

And he is always beckoning you to return, no matter what.

The fifth tool we can use when we are worried that we can cast upon him all our care because he deeply cares for us as we read in first Peter, chapter five, verse seven.

Our sixth tool is that we can use for when we are grieving that Jesus Christ Himself will step in and heal us and trade the oil of joy for mourning, as it says in Isaiah chapter 61, verse 3. And when we need physical backup to fight our battles, we have his divine protection as promised in Psalm 34. 7.

The angel the Lord encampeth around about them that fear him and delivereth them. He is our physical and spiritual backup in these battles. So you may be wondering, how do I tap into this amazing power and weapons of Jesus Christ?

It is not a secret formula. We do it through prayer, daily connection, studying his word and striving to obey his commandments so that he abides with us.

And one of the most practical ways we can carry his presence with us is by learning to chew on his words as Amy so delightfully phrases it. Let's now head back and have Amy share how to weaponize the power of the Scriptures at every age and stage of mothering the Scriptures.

Amy Johnson

00:08:08.260 - 00:10:18.420

I can't understand and hear the voice of the Lord as well if I don't know the language of God. By learning the language of God, by not just reading, chewing on the scriptures and tasting what they taste like, it's more than just, oh, I read it.

So you have your littles. Just read them, pray with them. Just don't worry if they're getting it. Just read and pray with it.

Then when you have teenagers get in the scriptures yourself.

Because there were so many times where I would be having a conversation with my teen and the glazed look started to come over them and then the Spirit would bring remembrance of scripture. And I would say, it's just like this. And I'd say the Scripture. And they. And I didn't know, but God knew that scripture meant something to that kid.

And now that they're adults and they're doing their own thing, literally their own thing. Because that's what adults do, right? We do our own thing.

We are all of a sudden we don't have to listen to mom and dad and it takes us a minute to catch up that there is a God we want to be listening to who is our parent. But now that they're doing their own thing for me, it's the word of God that keeps me from being so preachy and focuses on my change.

And I think that that's what we forget.

We get so focused on our fear of what our children are going to do or are doing or our husbands or whoever, that we actually start fighting for the wrong side because fear is of Satan.

And so if we will just get in the scriptures and learn and change and become who we can become through faith in Jesus Christ, we can stand fast and be a warrior of light instead of a problem, for lack of a better word. And I just, I know that's true. I've lived it. I am living it right now.

Well, my friend, if we stop acting out of fear, we can stop fighting the wrong side. When you step into your identity as a warrior of light, you don't have to carry the weight of this war on your shoulders.

You can use the weapon of Jesus Christ, scripture and of truth to claim peace in your home. And if you need a little extra help employing all these tactics we've talked about today, we have a wonderful gift for you.
