I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson, and joining me today is the amazing Kari Anjewierden, who is a wife, a mom, a prayer warrior, and a seeker of pocket miracles. And today we are exploring a fascinating intersection between ancient scripture and modern science as we answer, what is the armor of light?
And here's what we're going to be covering in today's episode. First, the scriptural blueprint, how Ephesians chapter 6 lays out our spiritual gear, and how Romans 13 calls it an armor of light.

In Ephesians, chapter 6, verses 13 through 17, Paul gives us the famous inventory of spiritual armor, the belt or your loins girded with truth, the breastplate of righteousness, your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit. But in Romans 13:12, Paul uses a cool phrase to summarize it all. He calls it the armor of light.
Have you ever stopped to consider that this armor is not just a metaphor, but a literal spiritual reality? Fascinatingly, modern science is starting to capture glimpses of what the Bible described centuries ago.

The armor of light as we are putting it on, Belt of truth, Breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, shield of faith, Gospel of peace, the sword of the Spirit. We need every one of those things because they act as a filter and a shield for our decision making here.
And we need that filter because the adversary keeps things so chaotic and jumbled. And you know, the last six months for me have been a back to back, just mind blurring situation. I've been in the middle of two house floods.
My whole house has been turned upside down. I had to do a reception for my daughter in the middle of that, you know, under construction in my house. And we were doing that in my backyard.
And so my mind was absolute mush. To even try to think a sane thought or my own thought, let's get real, was so hard in that space.
And if I wasn't bringing God into it, I wasn't going to survive it. I wasn't going to stay afraid. And there were so many days. I mean, you talk about flood, but I felt like I was drowning on some days.
And it's amazing how sometimes when we're in those moments, I think it's actually even adversarial where he keeps us so busy and so constantly moving in our brain, constantly moving, that sometimes we get to the end of the day and we realize I didn't bring God into today and I was guilty of that.
And then let me just tell you what, that six months would have gone a lot smoother had I been vigilant every day, consistent in finding power in the scriptures, in those prayers, in putting that armor on every day, making that the first thing I did every day, he was still with me, I still survived it. And I've learned many lessons in that.
But slowing down, allowing ourselves time to be with him, allowing ourselves to be, finding stillness and quiet, I'm learning what that means as my life was in chaos. And he said, be still. What does that mean? Right? And it's those moments with him and that again, he's the armor.
He is those pieces of armor and so he knows what we need and we can ask him for those things.
