What Are The 4 Ways to Hear God’s Voice?
May 25, 2026Summary
Have you ever knelt down to pray, only to find your mind racing with an endless to-do list while your phone buzzes next to you? If you want to connect with Heaven but feel like you are just shouting into a storm of silence, you are not alone. If you are asking how to hear God's voice, you need practical, real-world advice to cut through the noise and get direct answers. You are in the right place!
In this episode of the Arise, Women of God podcast, host Tamara K. Anderson and licensed clinical social worker Wendi Christensen peel back the layers on personal revelation. We reveal four distinct, sequential keys to help you tune your spiritual radio directly to Heaven's frequency. We discuss the necessity of "Intentional Stillness" (yes, that means turning off your phone!) and introduce the "Service Shortcut"—a powerful question that opens a jammed connection almost immediately. Wendi also shares her journey of moving from a "people-pleaser with God" to praying with raw honesty, and provides a clinical and faithful tool to cast out spiritual static. Tune in to move from frantically trying to fluent listening today!
Episode Takeaways
- Key 1: Intentional Stillness: God speaks in quiet moments (Psalm 46). You have to intentionally turn off the external noise—like your phone or the car radio—to create the space required to hear Him.
- Key 2: The Service Shortcut: If your prayers feel like they are hitting the ceiling, stop asking for yourself. Ask God: "Who do you want me to help today?" When you help God with His children, He clears the line to answer your needs as well.
- Key 3: Raw Honesty: You don't need to be a "people-pleaser" with God. He already knows your heart! Being brutally and emotionally honest with Him allows you to process your own feelings and invites a deep, authentic dialogue.
- Key 4: Clear Spiritual Static: Confusion and overwhelming doubt are often interference from the adversary. You can actively clear your spiritual airwaves by commanding the darkness to leave in the name of Jesus Christ, creating clarity to hear God.

Reflection Questions
- How often do you practice "intentional stillness" (turning off the radio, your phone, or other background noise) specifically to listen to God?
- When was the last time you used the "Service Shortcut" and asked God who He wanted you to help? What happened?
- Do you ever find yourself "people-pleasing" in your prayers instead of offering God your raw, honest emotions?

Hello and welcome to another episode of the Arise Women of God podcast. I'm your host, Tamara K. Andersen.
And joining me today is the fabulous Wendy Christensen, who is my co founder of Women warriors of Light and is an amazing clinical social worker who has over 30 years of experience. So my friends, today we are peeling back the layers on hearing God. It isn't about waiting for an elusive lightning bolt.
It's learning to manage your spiritual environment. We have laid out four sequential keys to open the floodgates of personal revelation for you today. The first is in intentional stillness.
The second is the service shortcut. The third is taming overwhelming emotions. And the fourth is a hack to help you clear spiritual static.
And Wendy is going to help us kick it off today with the hurdle we face almost every single day. Ladies, how to deal with the digital noise in our pockets.

Intentional stillness. I love the scripture, be still and know that I am God from Psalms 46. And it's talking about, you got to be still, be still to know that God's there.
So one thing that we have today that's really difficult are our phones. We're constantly on them. There's that constant buzz and that feed, and it makes it difficult for us to have quiet time.
In fact, a lot of people, when they're bored, they turn to their phones instead of just turning them off and not having something constantly there, whether it's the radio, the phone, whatever it is. So Turn it off, be intentional so that you can hear God.
Sometimes in the car, I'll just flip the radio off and be in silence and just go, okay, what do I need to hear God? And it's beautiful. It's those beautiful moments. So what can you do to intentionally be still so you can hear Him?

Once you turn off the external noise, what do you do if your own internal worries are still too loud? This is when you use step two, the service shortcut.
Whenever I feel spiritually stuck or feel like my own prayers are hitting the ceiling or a brick wall, I've learned to stop asking for myself. Instead, I ask the one question that seems to just bring in light and revelation almost immediately.
And here's the question you ask God, who do you want me to help today? Inevitably, God answers that question the very fastest. What's cool about that is that you know that you're tuned in enough to receive revelation.
And it's also amazing when a person pops into your mind, that right there is evidence that God sees you, knows you, and trusts you enough to act on his behalf and be his hands.
Just last week, right before I was heading out on a trip, I was talking to a friend and I realized that she had a lingering cough and that just wasn't going away. As we were talking, I felt a distinct whisper from God telling me to share a supplement I had downstairs right in my cupboard.
Even though my schedule was packed, I chose to act. It took a 25 minute drive to her house to drop it off.
And on the drive back home, because I was yolked to the Savior, in that act of service, the channel of revelation swung wide open for me. It was God's gift back to me. He dropped a beautiful answer in my mind about something I had been praying and mulling over all weekend.
Service opened the windows of heaven for me, for my challenges. When you help God with His children here on earth, he clears the line to answer your needs as well.
So, guys, sometimes service moves us out of our own way. But when we return to our prayer closets with our heavy burdens, we have to learn to be totally transparent and authentic.
Wendy is now going to share how she had to change from being a people pleaser with God and learn the power of raw honesty. Which led to one of the most powerful prayers in her life.
Wendi Christensen

Allowing God to hold your raw honesty. So being able to be real with God. I remember when I was younger, I was so guarded about my feelings and emotions because I didn't want want to be.
I was such a People pleaser. Thankfully, I repented. I'm not as much, but I remember.
I remember one night when I was a teenager kneeling down to pray to God, and it struck me so strongly, Wendy, you are not honest with God. I was guarded with him, and I thought, why are you being guarded with God? Because he already knows the hearts, your heart's desire.
The biggest reason that I pray to him is so I can hear my heart's desire. It's not just him. I feel like he already knows it, but it's me being able to have those aha moments in my communication with him.
So I had to be brutally honest with him. And I remember that night just going, I'm going to be 100% honest with God. I'm going to share everything with Him.
And it was one of my most beautiful prayers because I shared every single emotion and feeling I was having that night. As my teenage self, I was like, I'm sad about this. I'm disappointed about this. I'm excited about this. I mean, I shared everything.
And it was one of the best prayers because I was just emotionally raw with him and I didn't hold back anything. I was 100% honest. And I feel like if you can be so honest, brutally honest with God, then He can be honest with you. Not that he's never not honest.
He is, but I think he's in that space where he's like, you're here, you're present with me, you're showing up with me. Let me sit with you. And it's those sweet, tender moments that you can finally go, oh, yeah.
Yep, we're having a great, beautiful, honest conversation with Him.

So, my friends, when you show up authentically with God in prayer, you can clearly see what belongs in your soul and what is just noise from the enemy, because he always likes to attack. This brings us to our final key. And hack. Actively defending your spiritual airwaves from the adversary's interference.
Wendi Christensen
00:08:00.750 - 00:09:18.420
And then four, clearing spiritual static. Sometimes it's hard to hear because we're overwhelmed, we're confused. We don't know what to do.
I find that when I'm confused, it's Satan trying to run static. He's trying to run interference in what I'm thinking, what I'm doing, what I'm feeling.
And so I'll intentionally clear him out and I'll just do it through all things that we do, through our Savior's name he can do. So I'll just.
Simply, in the name of Jesus Christ, I command Satan and all of his minions any of his tools to leave just to be gone so that I can hear my Heavenly Father clearly. I want to hear him clearly. So cast Satan away so that you can get clarity in whatever it is that you're seeking from God.
And I find that that can be so strong in hearing answers to prayers, because prayers can be anytime.
You can pray over anything and anyone at any time in your life, and especially when you feel doubt or you feel confused or you feel like I don't know what to do, I'm so in a frazzled state of mind. Clear out Satan and then you'll be able to hear God clear.

So my friends, hearing God is not an accident. It is a practice. Turn off the phone. Ask who you can serve. Lay your raw heart bare and command darkness to leave the room, inviting light in.
When you follow these four keys, you will find that the heavens aren't made of concrete. They are wide open.
To help you put these keys into practice today we want to give you our Roadmap to Revelation 6 Steps to Hearing God more clearly in your daily life. This PDF along with are Receiving Light and Revelation. Audio meditation done by Wende are available free by clicking the link below.
If you are struggling with the adversary and negative self talk, we invite you to turn to page eight of this download. There we have written out the exact script for a Cast out the adversary prayer that Wende described.
Use it to claim your space to cast out darkness bringing in light. Then use step six, the Evening Review to write down who you were prompted to serve today. Log those witnesses of God's voice.
They are evidence that he sees you, that he loves you, and that he is indeed communicating with you. Until next time, May you arise. Do it God's way. God strong.
