Hello, and welcome back to the Arise, Women of God podcast.
I'm your host, Tamara K. Andersen.
And today we are uncovering the true significance of the spiritual resistance you experience every single day as a mom.
But let's begin with why this war is targeted so directly at you.
For a Christian mom, spiritual warfare is not an abstract theological concept.
It is the underlying significance of your daily maternal role.
The poet William Ross Wallace famously wrote, the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world.
What you do within the walls of your home truly matters.
You are shaping, nurturing, and anchoring the rising generation in Christ.
And because the adversary knows how pivotal your influence is, he wants you to fail.
At its core, spiritual warfare is the battle for our eternal souls and the souls of those we love most.
It is an active collision between light and darkness when you face heavy spiritual resistance.
When chaos erupts, doubts attack your mind, and your home feels like it's under intense darkness.
Hear this truth.
Resistance is proof of your assignment, not evidence of your failure.
The adversary doesn't waste ammunition on empty houses.
He targets your home because your family represents a vibrant, active threat to his kingdom of darkness.
Let's look at Esther 4:14, where it says, and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
You, my sister, were not born into this turbulent generation by accident.
You were not randomly assigned to your specific children.
With their unique personalities challenged, challenges and heartaches.
God strategically positioned you to stand as a spiritual sentinel over your household in this exact hour of Earth's history.
Does that mean it's easy?
Oh, absolutely not.
As a young mother, I learned a principle that anchored my soul.
God does not give us more than we can handle.
With his help, the world drops the second half of that sentence.
But without Jesus Christ, mortality is far more than you or I can handle.
When we involve Jesus in our daily challenges.
His strength steps into our weaknesses.
Oh my sisters.
So often the fiercest battle in spiritual warfare is waged quietly in a mother's mind.
The enemy whispers, look at you.
You have a college degree, talents, dreams, and all you did today was wipe noses, sweep crumbs and fold laundry.
What you do isn't important.
That is a direct adversarial attack and lie.
Our homes are sacred ground.
When we look at motherhood through God's eyes, our perspective completely shifts.
You are not just doing chores, you are nurturing, clothing, feeding and loving spirit sons and daughters of of God.
Packing lunches, folding shirts, driving carpools, praying over emotional storms, and teaching eternal truth at the kitchen table are acts of spiritual defiance against the adversary.
You are caring for the king's children.
Motherhood walks through some of the highest highs and the lowest lows.
Look at what righteous Simeon prophesied to mary and Luke 2, 3435.
Behold, this child is set for the fall and the rising again of many in Israel.
Yea, a sword shall pierce through thine own soul.
Also, loving children in a fallen world carries a real spiritual cost, my friend.
A mother's heart will inevitably feel the pierce of the sword as her children walk through painful trials, battle mental health issues, make heartbreaking choices, or face fierce opposition of the adversary.
Oh, my dear sister, that maternal ache is not meaningless pain.
It is walking in the footsteps of Christ.
You are sharing in the Savior's heart, interceding for those you love, and standing firm until redemption is fulfilled.
Now you may be wondering, what do we do when the cultural pressure threatening our children feels overwhelming?
We look to the mothers in Scripture who refused to surrender.
Let's look at Jochebed, the mother of Moses.
In Exodus 2, verses 1 through 10, Pharaoh had issued a terrible decree across Egypt that every newborn Hebrew boy had to be thrown into the Nile river to drown.
Jochebed looked at Moses and saw he was a goodly child.
She hid him for three months, defying the king's order.
But when she could hide him no longer, she didn't collapse into despair.
She went to God for practical problem solving wisdom.
Then she gathered bulrushes and built a small ark and sealed it with pitch and slime to make it completely waterproof.
Then she laid baby Moses inside, placed the ark and the reed along the riverbank, and stationed his sister Miriam to watch over him.
God honored her faithful action.
Moses was drawn out of the water by Pharaoh's own daughter, and Jochebed was hired and paid to nurse and raise her own son.
Motherhood is active countercultural defiance.
The adversary wants our children drowned in the murky currents of worldly philosophies, moral confusion, doubt and despair.
But the true meaning of spiritual warfare is building an ark of faith, prayer, and truth around our children.
When you establish family scripture study, pray together, set digital boundaries, and teach your children who they are in Christ, you are sealing that ark with spiritual pitch and slime.
You are making your household waterproof so your children can float safely right through the turbulent waters designed to destroy them.
Finally, spiritual warfare reveals the unstoppable power of a mother's relentless, humble tenacity.
Look at the Canaanite mother in Matthew 15:21 28.
This Gentile woman came crying out to the Savior, have mercy on me, O Lord, Thou Son of David.
My daughter is grievously vexed with the devil.
When Jesus tested her faith, pointing out that it wasn't meet to give the children's bread to the dogs, she didn't take offense.
She didn't turn around and storm off.
She fell at his feet, worshiped him and declared truth, Lord.
Yet dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their master's table.
Jesus marveled at her tenacity and said, o woman, great is thy faith.
Be it unto thee even as thou wilt.
And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
Oh, my friend, when your child is under intense spiritual or emotional affliction, you do not care about appearances.
You don't worry about what other people think.
You do not leave the presence of Jesus until his healing power touches your child.
I have lived this reality on my knees.
I cannot tell you how many midnight and 2am moments I have spent awake, weeping and pleading with my whole soul before God on behalf of one of my children.
Some of those prayers brought simple, immediate solutions.
But others required years of relentless, agonizing intercession.
Like the prolonged battle against spiritual warfare when one of our children was fighting an addiction to pornography.
There were nights when the darkness felt suffocating and the enemy whispered that the battle was lost.
But like that faithful mother in Matthew 15, I refused to let go of the Savior's feet.
I knew that even a crumb of Christ's grace and mercy and atoning power was more than enough to shatter that addiction and reclaim my child's soul.
Oh, my friend, God was faithful.
Step by step, tier by tier, deliverance finally came.
So, my friend, never stop pleading for your children.
Your midnight prayers are heard in the courts of heaven.
And Christ's healing Power reaches beyond the deepest strongholds of the adversary.
When you understand the true meaning of spiritual warfare, you stop seeing your daily mothering as mundane.
You realize that you are standing on sacred ground, building an ark of safety and fighting for eternal souls.
