May 11, 2026Summary
Have you ever read a Bible verse in the morning and completely forgotten it by lunchtime? You want the Word to be a living, breathing guide for your daily life, but sometimes it just feels like ancient ink on a page. If you are asking how to hear God's voice through scripture, you are in the exact right place. In this episode of the Arise, Women of God podcast, host Tamara K. Anderson and guest Tiffany Fletcher reveal how to move from simply studying the Word to actually hearing God speak directly into your current situation.
Tamara shares a relatable, real-life story about losing a favorite pair of gloves in a hardware store and how God used that frustrating moment—combined with a verse she had been "marinating" on from Luke 15—as a direct megaphone to teach her about His love for the lost. We also explore the beautiful Road to Emmaus story, explaining what it really feels like when a scripture causes a "spiritual ignition" or a burning in your heart. Discover Tiffany's practical shortcut for finding answers in the Bible when you need them fast, and learn how to invite the Savior to walk with you through your daily chores. Tune in to learn how to make God's Word your ultimate two-way radio!
Episode Takeaways
- Marinate on the Word: You do not need to read whole chapters to hear God. Take one or two verses and let them "marinate" in your mind as you go about your day. This creates space for God to speak back.
- The Hardware Store Miracle: God uses the messy, mundane moments of our lives (like searching for $15 lost gloves) to bring the verses we've been studying to life.
- The Scriptural Shortcut: If you need a fast answer, open your Bible with a specific question in mind. Ask God for guidance, begin reading, and watch how He highlights the exact truth you need.
- The Road to Emmaus Effect: Hearing God's voice in scripture often feels like a "spiritual ignition"—a sudden internal warmth or an aha moment where an ancient verse feels like it was written specifically for you today.

We're moving from studying the Word to hearing God's voice. Stay tuned. Ordinary women, extraordinary faith. When God calls, we say yes.
Hello, and welcome to another episode of the Arise Women of God podcast. I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson, and joining me today is Tiffany Fletcher, an amazing warrior of light on our advisory board.
A few years ago, I was at a hardware store, and as I roamed the aisles, I lost my favorite pair of gloves. Let me explain. We had recently moved to Utah, and these gloves kept my fingers warm when it was freezing cold outside.
They were like my favorite thing. And when I discovered them lost, I even rounded up some associates to help me try to find them.
As this was going on, I was preparing to teach a Sunday school lesson on Luke chapter 15, where we talk about the parables of the lost sheep, the prodigal son, and the lost coin. And I had been mulling over those verses all week long.
Finally, we found the gloves, and I was so excited and thankful to God for helping me find them. As I walked outside to the car, gloves in hand, the scriptures came to life for me.
And what I'd been studying all week suddenly merged into a whisper in my mind and heart where God said, camera, you just spent 10 minutes looking for a 15 pair of gloves. Will you spend 10 minutes searching and blessing my lost sheep? Ooh. In that moment, that verse was not ancient history.
It was God's voice teaching me to bring that story, that parable, into my life. God used the very verses I'd been marinating on to teach me his love for his children. He taught me I don't have to wait for a lightning bolt.
He will use the verses I, I already have in my mind to answer questions I have in real life, even with lost gloves. In a hardware store. That experience only happened because I was marinating over those verses before the crisis hit.
We've talked about this concept before on the podcast.
While you let some ideas or verses, even one verse, settle while you go about your day, when you let any scriptural verse just sit with you, you're creating a space for God to speak back. As St. Augustine wisely said, when we PR speak to God, when we read scripture, God speaks to us.
And so don't be surprised if sometimes God speaks to you through His Word. Through reading scriptures, it's like picking up the other end of a two way radio. So how do you find the right verse for a specific problem?
Tiffany Fletcher is now going to share a practical strategy when you're looking for a scriptural shortcut on those days when you need an answer and you need it quickly.

I, I find that when I, when I read scriptures with a question that the answer always comes and it's beautiful. Especially like scriptures, I, sometimes I'll just open up my Bible and I'll be like, okay, God, this is my question and I need you to answer this.
And I'll just read and it, it's so strange that the answer will come. I mean, it's not strange, it's God, because that's how he speaks to us.

If you're actually wondering what it feels like when a verse stops being ink and starts feeling like God's voice, let' dive into the road to emmaus from Luke 24. Two disciples were walking along completely discouraged.
Their dreams had been shattered by the Savior's crucifixion, much like we feel when our own dreams have fallen apart. Jesus starts walking with them, but they don't recognize Him. And what does he do to help them?
He doesn't perform a miracle or show them the scars in his hands right away. He opens the scriptures. He walked them through the law and the prophets, showing them how all of those ancient words pointed to Him.
Later, after he vanished, they looked at each other and said, did not our heart burn within us while he talked with us, by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures. Hearing God's voice in scripture often feels exactly like that. A spiritual ignition.
It's that internal heat or sudden aha moment when a verse you've read what feels like a hundred times suddenly feels like it was written that morning just for you.
When you marinate in a verse, you are essentially walking the road to Emmaus, inviting Jesus to catch up with you and set your heart on fire with new understanding.
One of my hacks to doing this is to right before I start reading my scriptures, inviting God's spirit to be with me so that I can learn something new or understand something or perhaps even take a verse one or two at a time so that I don't feel I have to read an entire chapter but instead just really focus on what does this verse mean to me today. So my friends, God does not want His Word to just stay on your nightstand. He wants it to walk with you as you go about your day.
Whether you're looking for a lost love or a lost sense of purpose, he will use the verses you have planted in your heart to whisper the way forward.
And with today's technology, it's easier than ever because often you can just hit play on Scripture verses on your phone and listen while you're going about your daily chores. However, God inspires you to dive into His Word. Follow those promptings things even one verse can make a difference.
Remember, God knows you are worth finding and saving and he uses His Word to do it. To help you to continue or start marinating in God's Word, we want to give you our free Roadmap to Revelation PDF download.

When a verse jumps out at you while you're doing the dishes or driving, write it down. Recording that God voice in a journal or maybe in the margin of your Scriptures helps to teach you God's frequency and how he speaks to you.
Also, check out Step five, the Scripture Check to learn how to filter your own thoughts against the eternal truths found in God's Word as we wrap up today. Remember, God loves you. He loves his sheep.
Whether you're a prodigal or you're walking the path, he runs to you and wants to help you find him in His Word. Until next time, May you arise. Do it God's way. God strong.
