Episode Takeaways
- The Worthless Lie: In Romans 8, Paul asks if trials, tribulations, or mistakes can separate us from the love of God. The answer is no. Every person in the Bible was broken (except Jesus), and God still spoke to them. Your imperfections do not disqualify you from hearing His voice.
- The Carpool Sanctuary: You don't need to be on a beach or in a grove of trees to hear God. Kari shares how God meets her right where she is—usually folding laundry or driving her six kids around. God is perfectly willing to speak to you in the messy middle of your day.
- The Service Hack: If you are struggling to hear God, ask Him this specific prayer: "Who can I serve today?" God answers this prayer incredibly fast, often popping a specific name or face into your mind immediately.
- The Gratitude Hack: Kari shares that the quickest way to invite God's Spirit into your current space is to practice gratitude. By pausing to name three things you are grateful for, and having a notebook ready to record your thoughts, you signal to God that you are purposely looking for His hand and ready to listen.
- The Crowded Room: The woman with the issue of blood didn't have a formal appointment with Jesus. She reached out in the middle of a chaotic, noisy crowd. Just as Jesus stopped and found her in that crowd, He is pressing through the noise of your life to find you today.

The Arise Women of God Podcast hello, and welcome to another episode of the Arise Women of God podcast. I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson, and joining me today is Kari Anjewierden of our Women warriors of Light Advisory Board.
And today we are exploring the beautiful truth that that God is an active participant in the lives of his daughters. First, we're going to look at that worthless lie by checking out a scripture in Romans that is the ultimate armor for your broken moments.
Second, Carrie is going to share how, as a mom of six, she doesn't need a quiet mountaintop to speak to God. He is perfectly happy talking to her while she's driving.
Third, we're going to discuss the service hack, the one prayer God seems to answer faster than any other.
And finally, we're going to look at the story of the woman with the issue of blood and how it proves that God is pressing through the noise of your life just to find you. But let's kick it off with a beautiful verse that helps us counter whether we're worthy for God to talk to us. Am I worthy?
I've made so many mistakes in my life. I'm so imperfect. I mean, I think we always see ourselves as so flawed. And if I'm so flawed, how can God possibly love me?
And can he talk to me as I'm strolling through the aisles of a grocery store? If I'm having a really hard day, do you know what I mean? Is that even feasible? Is that even possible? Does he even want to?
And as I ponder this, I come from a place of knowing. I think every one of us out there has felt broken and unworthy of God and His love. And it feels very heavy when we need love, we need comfort.
We need reassurance. And we wonder, can he talk to me even though I am so broken, Even though I am so flawed? And the answer is yes.
I love how Paul describes in the New Testament that nothing can separate us from the love of God. You know, and he goes on to list all these things. Can trials and tribulations and all these horrible things.
Can any of these things separate us from the love of God? And his answer is no. No, nothing can. And I think that is just one of the most powerful reassurances to every one of us in our broken times.
Yes, God can talk to us, and yes, he wants to. Every person in the Bible stories is broken except for Jesus, right? And he loves each of them enough in those stories to talk to them.
And those same principles apply to us today. Did you catch that, ladies? Nothing can separate us.
But even when we believe that he loves us, we often think we have to find a perfect place to hear Him. Kari used to think that she had to either go find a quiet place in nature, in the trees, or on a beach.
But her reality as a mother of six completely change that perspective.

This is something that I have tried to study out in my lifetime because there was a time that I felt like God didn't speak to me and I didn't feel worthy. And so being able to now be in a place where I can say, I know he wants to speak to me. I know he can speak to me. I'm his child.
And just like me, with my children, if I ever get an opportunity to speak with my kids, I'm all in, right? I love my children, I want to speak to my children. And God is the same.
And I used to think, oh, but I. I need to be in a grove of trees, I need to be in the mountains, I need to be on the beach. I need to be in some quiet, special place, right? My closet, whatever.
And what I have realized as a mom of six kids, I don't have time always to go to those places, especially when I really need him. I'm usually in the car driving somewhere or folding laundry or doing dishes.
And those are when those answers come to me are in those moments of serving somebody, I guess is what it really is, right? Because generally I'm driving kids here or there. I talk to him in the car. He talks to me in the car, right? He meets us where we are at.
And I love that my God loves me so much that he meets me where I'm at, in those places that I need him. I'D love to always be on my knees seeking and have him answer me there. That's not usually where I get answers.

00:06:19.040 - 00:07:26.750
Isn't it great to know he meets us where we are at? Whether you're doing the dishes or stuck in traffic, he is ready to talk.
But if you're still unsure how to start a conversation, there's one specific prayer that acts like a spiritual fast pass to receiving an answer. Here's one of the prayers that I seem to get answered more quickly than others. And that is the prayer, who can I serve today?
And just wait and listen. Because often there's somebody out there and God is very aware of all of his children that needs help.
And help me to recognize when you're speaking to me. And it's so interesting, anytime I pray a prayer like that, somebody or something will come to mind. You need to do this. Oh. Or just somebody will pop into your head, pull out your phone. Hey, I'm thinking of you today. How you doing? You know what I mean? So.
So just start asking, can you hear me? And help me learn how to hear you?
Kari Anjewierden
00:07:27.230 - 00:09:32.459
Yeah.
One of the things that I have learned in my lifetime is if I want to bring in God's spirit or to feel his spirit, the quickest way for me to do that is to think of my gratitude. What is it that I'm grateful for? What are the things? At least three things, right?
And if I'm in more of a space that I can do that, I try to always have a notebook and a pen with me or at least something on my phone where I can take a note so that when I come to God and I say, I really would love to hear from you today, I'm ready. He knows I'm ready. And I'm waiting not just to hear his voice, but to write down what he's telling me with the intent of acting on it.
And that has helped a lot. But I would also add that it's a process as well to learn to hear Him.
And sometimes if you are not in that space where you're used to hearing him, doesn't mean he's not there. It might mean you just need a little bit more practice to find out how he's speaking to you. Right. Like you said.
And so asking him directly, how do you speak to me? Help me to see it, help me to recognize it. But then make sure that you are also finding yourself in a space to recognize, to look for it, to find it.
I know for me, when I started looking for God's hand in my life every day. That took a while to figure out where to see it every day.
But each day as I was purposeful in wanting to see those things, eventually I could see miracles everywhere. And I was like, oh, well, he's there and he's there. And he was even in that thing that maybe was really hard, but he was there.
So practice and yeah, don't give up on God. He's not going to give up on us.

Gratitude is a practice of the heart.
And if you're worried that you're lost in the noise of a busy life, remember that God is a master at finding exactly who he is looking for, even in a crowd.
Kari Anjewierden
00:09:48.610 - 00:10:35.730
And I love the story also of of the woman with the issue of blood. She did not have a set time that she was sitting down to speak with him, right? It was in a busy crowd of people and she reached out to touch him.
And because he was her father, he knew she was there because he wanted to connect with her. He stopped in that crowded space with the crowds pressing and found her. And he's doing that with us every day. I can promise that.
I have felt that in my life. I have seen that in the lives of my children and and others that I know he's also pressing through the crowd to find us.
