Tune in to start calibrating your spiritual frequency today!

Episode Takeaways

  • Hearing God Takes Practice: Just like young Samuel in the Old Testament, it takes time and practice to recognize when God is calling your name. Do not get discouraged!
  • The Three Voice Filter: There are three voices in your head: yours, God's, and the adversary's. Paying attention to how each voice makes you feel is the key to discernment.
  • God Speaks in Short Phrases: Divine guidance is usually gentle, progressive, and hopeful. God will often give you the next right step in a short phrase rather than a long, overwhelming paragraph.
  • Clear the Mental Static: If you are struggling to hear God, the adversary might be jamming your signal. Intentionally cast out fear, anxiety, and the adversary to create a quiet space for the still, small voice.

Hello and welcome to another episode of the Arise Women of God podcast. I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson, and joining me today is the incredible and personable Bonnie Randall, an amazing woman warrior of light.

And today we're tackling the important principle of learning to discern when God is speaking in your mind. It's important to realize that hearing God is a principle that requires practice.

In First Samuel, chapter three in the Old Testament, we find the story of a young Samuel who later became God's prophet.

He actually heard a voice in his head calling him by name in the middle of the night, but he was so new to that experience that he thought it was his mentor, the priest Eli. It took three times of this happening for Eli to finally realize it was God who was calling Samuel.

And he instructed Samuel that if he heard that voice call him again to simply respond, speak, Lord, for thy servant heareth God then whispered the message Samuel needed to hear. If a future prophet like Samuel needed practice to learn to hear the whisper from heaven, it's okay if you do too.

As we read in First Kings, chapter 19, verse 12, God's voice is often still and quiet. It doesn't usually shout over the noise. It waits for us to tune in.

Bonnie is now going to share some incredible insights on how to tell which voice in your head is actually God speaking to you.

Oftentimes, God's voice in your head sounds like your own voice, but kinder, softer, more loving, also a little more authoritative. And for me at least, he speaks in very simple terms, very short phrases. And I have to keep asking Questions to get more of the story.

He doesn't speak to me in these big, long paragraphs. He speaks in very short thoughts and very short phrases. And I have grown to know that for me, it's a gentle voice. It's a very kind and loving voice.

If I ever hear a criticism that doesn't come out in a gentle way, in a positive and hopeful way, I know that's the adversary, or I know it's my own subconscious giving me a hard time. I feel like it's important for us to experiment on how God speaks to us. And you will start to notice that there are three voices in your head.

Yours, God's, and the adversary.

And as you start paying attention to the fruits of those voices and where they're leading you and what they're telling you, you will start to know the difference between the three. Because I promise you, God's voice is always hopeful. It's always progressive. He wants you to move forward and. And whatever you're doing.

And sometimes moving forward means repenting, and you need to ask and fix something. But when he asks you to repent, it'll be a gentle rebuke. It won't be a berating. That's the enemy.

He's the one who puts us down and criticizes and shames us and all of those things. God's rebukes are always gentle and loving.

So I hope that that helps give you the idea that as you start paying attention to those three voices and you start paying attention to the way they make you feel, what emotions come up and where you're feeling them in your body, you will start to know which of those three voices is you, God, or the adversary.

Bonnie's point about the short phrase pattern is so very helpful, don't you think? God usually gives us the. The next right step, not the whole encyclopedia.

But even when we know the pattern, we have to create the right environment to hear God's whisper. I recently experienced this while I was planning a new series for our podcast.

A couple of months ago, I was planning this whole series on hearing God, and I had a list of about 3 to 400 questions that women like you have actually asked. And I knew I couldn't answer them all, so I talked to God about it.

And then because I wasn't getting any answers, I let that process while I worked on making dinner, I kind of just let myself settle in and try to figure out how I was going to do it. Marinate. So God can just start throwing little trickles of ideas into my mind.

When I finally sat down a couple hours later in my office and began to pray, I told God, this is your work and I want to do it your way. Please help me discern which of these questions I should answer and in which order.

The next thing I felt impressed to do was to cast out the adversary to kind of clear my mental space in my brain, including any anxiety or distracting thoughts. And then I invited angels and light in to be with me and fill me so that I could more easily heal, hear and discern what God was telling me to do.

As I looked over the list after that, I found God did not shout at me, but I simply heard and felt, yes, this one. And I would go down the list a little bit farther and feel really good about another episode. And so I just began building a list.

That progressive feeling that Bonnie just talked about because it moved me forward through this goal is a perfect way to describe it. I felt this nudge to do this episode and move forward down the list.

That clarity only came because I was intentional about inviting God to be a part of the process. I started where I was in the kitchen in the mess of daily life, right? But I gave him the problem I was trying to solve.

Asking for guidance if you're struggling to hear it, maybe because the adversary is creating static to keep you from hearing the divine frequency clearly. In our free roadmap to Revelation download, we specifically talk about this spiritual warfare.

On page six, there is a prayer called Cast out the Adversary that I use very frequently. It's a tool you can use to command feelings of fear or overwhelm.

To leave in the name of Jesus Christ so that you can create a holy space where you can hear God in your mind. When you clear the darkness, the still small voice doesn't have to compete for your attention.

So my friends, in answer to the question, you absolutely can hear God in your mind. He is speaking in hopeful, progressive and gentle ways. If the voice you are hearing is shaming you, it's not Him. If it's confusing you, it's not Him.

God is the author of Peace. Help you practice this and get your frequency calibrated like young Samuel did. We want to give you our roadmap to revelation.
