Episode Takeaways
- The Master Command (Romans 13:12, 14): Creating your armor requires a two-step action. First, you must cast off the deeds of darkness (habits, entertainment, grudges). Second, you must clothe yourself in Jesus Christ. You cannot bring in light without first ridding yourself of darkness!
- Clear the Air Daily: Make it a habit to explicitly cast the adversary and evil out of your home during your morning and evening prayers.
- Customize Your Armor: Ask God what specific pieces of armor you need each morning. Are you facing temptation? Ask for an extra breastplate of righteousness! Do you need to trust Him more today? Ask for the shield of faith.
- Turn Outward (Matthew 5:16): When the battle is intense, the enemy wants you to retreat into isolation and self-pity. You reinforce your own armor of light when you turn outward to serve and love others!
Kari’s 5 Diagnostic Armor Questions
Use this framework to test whether your daily choices are reinforcing your armor or breaking it:
- Is what I am feeling grounded in truth? (Does it align with God's word, or am I believing a lie?)
- Does it guard my righteousness? (Does it draw me closer to Christ?)
- Does it keep my integrity? (Is it taking me further away? Is it building me or diminishing me?)
- Is it guided by peace? (Am I making a choice out of fear or pressure, or do I have the peace of knowing this is what I need to do?)
- Does it exercise faith? (Am I trusting God with the outcome even when it's hard, or am I trying to do it my own way?)

The Arise Women of God Podcast hello and welcome back to the Arise Women of God Podcast.
I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson, and joining me today is the wonderful Kari Anjewierden, who is an amazing wife, mom of six, a powerful prayer warrior and she loves seeking and finding miracles, especially little ones in life's daily grind. Today we're moving from theory to practice as we answer how do we create and maintain the the Armor of light?
Here's what we're covering in today's episode. First, the master command, Paul's two step formula in Romans chapter 13. Second, the clearing the air.
Some powerful insights Carrie's going to share on casting out darkness daily from simple things we can do.
Next, we'll talk about the five armor questions where Carrie's going to share a practical diagnostic framework to test whether your choices are reinforcing your armor or breaking it. And finally, we'll take a peek at Proverbs, chapter 4 and 1 John 1 to show us how to build light through daily momentum and outward service.
But let's begin with Paul's foundational command found in Romans chapter 13. To create an armor of light, we must follow the blueprint laid out in Romans 3, chapter 13, verses 12 and 14.
The night is nearly over, the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Notice that creating armor requires a clear two step action. First, casting off. Basically stopping the habits, entertainment, thoughts or grudges that invite darkness into your mind and heart.
Second, clothing yourselves. In Jesus, that means intentionally adopting his mindset, his habits, his forgiveness and his love, as First John 1:7 promises.
But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son. Clergy cleanses us from all Sin. Isn't that awesome? We need Jesus to cast out darkness and keep light around us and in us. Light is an environment.
And as Proverbs chapter 4, verse 18 declares, the path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. You don't build an armor of light overnight. It is a daily progressive momentum.
So how do we practically start casting off darkness and putting on this gear every morning? Let's listen to Kari share why casting out darkness and starting with prayer is step number one.

So one of the things, as you read in Romans 13:12, it says, the night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore, let us cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light.
And I love this that he is telling us that before we can bring in light, we need to rid ourselves of darkness.
And so I listened to a podcast lately with a woman who was talking about how morning and night, she and her husband, in their prayers together, they cast out the devil, they cast out evil, out of their home, out of their person. And they do it in the morning and they do it at night, and. And maybe throughout the day, too.
You know, I'm sure if, if you've got intrusive thoughts and things, but I would say that would be a key thing that I would start with, is rid yourself of anything that is not going to fill you with light and ask for help.
You know, prayer again is that avenue where we can ask God, please, can you help get rid of this through the atonement, we have that power to ask for that to be removed from us. And then what are the pieces of armor that I need today?
And maybe we ask God what those people are, because maybe we need an extra shield of faith, or maybe we need extra truth, or maybe we're struggling with the righteousness thing just a little bit, and we want to be a little bit rebellious and we need help in those temptations, right? And so maybe knowing what is the armor that I need today and letting God lead us in what we're putting on.
But prayer, I think, is the first piece of armor I always will put on. That's the shield over everything, under everything, Right? It is that direct communication with God and. And we have to have it.

Once we put that prayer shield on, how do we test our choices throughout the day to ensure we aren't allowing ch chinks in our armor? Let's listen as Carrie shares five brilliant diagnostic questions we can ask ourselves.
Kari Anjewierden
00:06:43.600 - 00:07:55.870
So here is kind of a framework or some questions that we can ask ourselves when we are trying to make choices in the light or to bring that light into our lives, Is what I am feeling grounded in truth? Does it align with God's word? Am I believing a lie? And I think we can ask ourselves that. Does it guard my righteousness?
Does it draw me closer to Christ? Does it keep my integrity? Or is it taking me further away? Is it building me or is it diminishing me? Is it guided by peace?
Am I making a choice out of fear or pressure? Or do I have the peace of knowing no, this is exactly what I need to do?
Because I think we often get into a peer pressure situation and try to do something because of that. And the last one does it exercise faith? Am I trusting God with the outcome even when it's really hard?
Or am I trying to take matters into my own hands and do it my way?

Those five questions are absolute gold for any mother wanting to audit her home's spiritual state. When the battle gets intense and you feel weary, the enemy tries to make you retreat internally into isolation, shame or self pity.
But true armor of light is created when we turn outward. When you choose to serve a neighbor, love your family with patience and share your spiritual light, you link arms with other believers.
As Matthew 5:16 teaches, letting your light shine before others reinforces your own armor while lighting the path for those walking home beside you. There are moments, though, when you feel so drained you need to kind of recharge your batteries, and that is okay too.
We all have moments like that, so please don't feel guilt or shame if that's where you are today. Remember to have grace with yourself. As God looks on you with grace, link your arms with him and he can help you as you spiritually recharge.
If you're ready to run these five diagnostic questions in your daily life, cast off spiritual distractions and build an unshakable armor of light over your family. We at Women warriors of Light want to put a powerful free tool directly into your hands down in the show notes below.
