Summary

Have you ever wondered how to teach spiritual warfare to your children without making them terrified of the dark or overwhelmed by the world? As a Christian mother, you want your kids to be spiritually equipped, but you absolutely do not want to breed anxiety or fear in their young hearts. If you are looking for practical, age-appropriate ways to train your family, you are in the exact right place!

In this episode of the Arise Women of God podcast, host Tamara K. Anderson shares hands-on, tactical blueprints to confidently pass down spiritual truths to the next generation. We explore how to turn the Armor of God into a fun, kinesthetic game for toddlers using a simple "Tinfoil Dart Shield," teaching them how to separate a spiritual attack from their true identity.

For older kids, we tackle the "Teenage Brain Battle." Discover how to help your adolescents audit their inner dialogue, reject the enemy's post-mistake shame loops, and understand that they are never fighting alone. We also anchor into non-negotiable spiritual realities every child should memorize, including the power of angels, the defense of fasting and prayer, and the ultimate crowning jewel: keeping our focus entirely on Jesus Christ. Tune in to learn how to hardwire your family's defense perimeter for generations to come!

Episode Takeaways

  • Young children need physical muscle memory to understand spiritual concepts, learning that a bad feeling is an outside object trying to get in, not a permanent part of who they are.
  • Adolescents face their bloodiest battles in their minds, requiring active training to audit their inner dialogue and reject intrusive thoughts.
  • The adversary operates like a silent sniper, waiting until a teenager slips up to change his uniform from a tempter to a prosecuting attorney who pushes the shame button.
  • Every child must know they are never fighting alone, with literal heavenly reinforcements and angels standing guard around them (Psalm 91:11).
  • Spiritual warfare is never won by studying the details of the dark, but by amping up the light and connecting daily with Jesus Christ.

Hands-On Spiritual Warfare Lessons for Your Family

The "Tinfoil Dart Shield" Lesson for Young Children

  • Draw or print a simple paper doll to represent your child.
  • Cut out pieces of the Armor of God and explain that the Helmet of Salvation keeps their thoughts safe, while the Breastplate of Righteousness protects their heart from feeling sad.
  • Give your child a toy shield or a sturdy piece of cardboard to hold in the living room.
  • Crumple up pieces of aluminum foil to represent the "fiery darts" of the adversary (like grumpiness, confusion, or anger—see list below for more ideas).
  • Gently toss the foil darts at your child and have them practice swatting the darts away with their shield while boldly shouting, "Get thee hence!"
  • When tossing the crumpled tinfoil, you can call out these kid-friendly emotions that the adversary tries to use to disrupt the peace in your home. Teaching them these specific words helps build their emotional vocabulary so they can identify the attack faster:
    • Frustrated (When a toy breaks or a sibling won't share)
    • Jealous (When someone else gets to go first)
    • Worried (When trying something new or going to bed in the dark)
    • Whiny (When they don't get their way)
    • Selfish (When they want to keep everything for themselves)
    • Lonely (When they feel left out on the playground)
    • Impatient (When they have to wait their turn)
    • Discouraged (When they can't figure out a homework problem or tie their shoes)

The "Truth Counter-Attack" Lesson for Teenagers

  • Explain to your teen that the adversary attacks their mind with lies, and they must use the Word of God as their offensive sword to strike back.
  • Write down the following common teenage struggles on slips of paper and take turns drawing them from a bowl to practice countering the lies.
  • Situation: "I failed my test and feel completely stupid and worthless."
  • Bible Truth Counter: "I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and God gives me strength." (Psalm 139:14, Philippians 4:13)
  • Situation: "I messed up and gave into temptation; I am too dirty to pray and God won't listen to me."
  • Bible Truth Counter: "I can take every thought captive, and nothing can separate me from the love of God." (2 Corinthians 10:5, Romans 8:38)
  • Situation: "I feel totally alone, isolated, and rejected by my friends."
  • Bible Truth Counter: "God has given His angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways; I am never alone." (Psalm 91:11)

Reflection Questions

  • How can you adapt the concept of the "Tinfoil Dart Shield" to help your children recognize when grumpiness or anger is entering your home?
  • Does your teenager know that the adversary acts as a "prosecutor" after a mistake? How can you help them recognize the shame cycle this week?
  • Are you actively teaching your kids to focus on the light of Jesus Christ, or is the family overly focused on the details of the darkness?

Hey my friend, have you ever wondered how to teach spiritual warfare to your children without making them feel terrified of the dark or completely overwhelmed by the world around them? This can be tricky because you want your kids to be spiritually equipped, but you don't want to breed anxiety or fear in their young hearts.

Well, stay tuned.

By the end of today's episode, you'll know a tactical hands on game to play with young children using tin foil and a blueprint to untangle the enemy's mental lies for teenagers and the foundational scriptural keys to prove that they never fight alone. Stay tuned. Ordinary Women Extraordinary Faith When God calls, we say yes. Hello and welcome to another episode of the Arise Women of God podcast.

I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson. Today I'm so excited to be with you as we talk all about how to do teach spiritual warfare to our family.

You don't have to be a teacher to know how to do this. Just do your best and ask God to be with you and help you as you do so.

To help you confidently pass down these spiritual truths to the next generation, we're breaking down today's episode into three critical teaching modules.

First, the tinfoil Dart shield, how to turn the Armor of God into an interactive kinesthetic game that even young toddlers can physically see and feel. Second, the Teenage Brain Battle, how to teach adolescents to audit their inner dialogue and reject the enemy's post mistake shame loops.

And third, the Unyielding alliance, three non negotiable spiritual realities Every child should memorize.

All right, let's kick it off by looking at our mandate that comes from the lord in Proverbs 22:6 where it says train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. Training means giving them practical muscle memory before they ever step out onto the front lines.

Let's look at how we introduce this to our littlest warriors. When my kids were little, I knew I couldn't just read intense theological sermons on how to cast out the devil.

Their brains just simply weren't wired for it. They needed something they could touch, color or play with. So. So I drew a simple play doll and we had our Armor of Light lesson.

You can find examples of something like this all over online. Then you have little pieces of armor and you put it on them like the helmet of salvation.

And this keeps your thoughts and your mind safe and reminds you that you're a child of God.

Or perhaps if you have a breastplate you can cover, you can say this is the breastplate of righteousness and it protects your heart from being sad or left out. If you want to take it a step further and build absolute muscle memory, put on some kid sized plastic armor and play an interactive game.

You can sit your little ones in the living room with a shield or a sword, then crumple up little pieces of aluminum foil which is light and really isn't going to hurt, and say these are the fiery darts of the adversary.

Slight confusion or grumpiness that the devil tries to throw at us in our house, and then you can practice throwing them at them and they can swat it away or protect themselves with a shield while shouting get the hence.

It sounds like a simple game and it is, but it teaches a young child a lifelong lesson that a bad feeling is an outside object trying to get in and they have the full authority to knock it away. They learn to separate the attack from their own identity of who they are as children of God.

Now, as your children morph into teenagers and becoming young adults, you have to transfer from using tinfoil, although you could still use that listen with teens and I think they would enjoy it quite a lot into real reality training. You can look them in the eye and teach them that the biggest, bloodiest battles they will ever face are within their own minds.

Teach your teens that the adversary operates like a silent sniper and their inner dialogue in their mind.

He waits until they're exhausted, stressed out about a math test, feeling rejected by friends, and then he drops a dark, looming, intrusive thought in their mind. You could easily do this with the tinfoil game again.

Talking about fiery darts only have different situations printed on a little slip of paper and you can read each situation to your teen and then have them counter it with a truth that they know from the word of God. We'll give some examples in the show notes today because this is what it looks like in real life every day.

Then you also need to teach them the trap of the slip up because we all make mistakes and your teenager is going to stumble and mess up and yield to temptation at some point.

Teach them that when they slip up, the adversary immediately changes his uniform from tempter to a prosecutor and he pushes the shame button, saying, you ruined your testimony, you can't pray now, you're dirty. You need to isolate yourself from God and from your parents. Teach your teens that that voice is a counterfeit and a lie.

Give them 2 Corinthians, chapter 10, verse 5 as their tactical standard, casting down imagination and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. Show them that a slip up doesn't mean that their armor is permanently broken.

It just means that they need a little Jesus in their lives and to stand with him and by him as they fight those battles. Because they are truly never alone. All right now let's wrap it up with no matter what the age of your children.

There are four non negotiable spiritual realities you must anchor deep into their souls so that they know they are never fighting alone. First is the power of angels. Teach them Psalm 91:11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways.

Teach your children that when they feel completely outnumbered, I peer pressure pressure or anxiety at school there are literal heavenly reinforcements standing guard around them as soon as they ask and invite them. Key number two is the defense of fasting and prayer. Show them that regular everyday prayers are awesome and great to connect us with God.

But sometimes heavy situation require us to upscale our prayers. Read them Jesus words and Matthew chapter 17, verse 21 that says howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Sometimes it's important to ask for the faith and prayers of others. When we hit significant challenges in our lives or when the attacks of the adversary seem particularly fierce. The power of prayer is mighty.

In Ecclesiastes chapter 4, verse 12, we read and if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Isolation is the enemy's playground. Family unity is a fortress.

And when you pair family or a congregation praying and fasting for someone, miracles do indeed happen. Now the final key is where our focus always needs to be and that is on Jesus. This is the crowning jewel of your teaching.

Spiritual warfare is not won by studying the details of the dark. It is amping up our light, the light of the Savior in our lives. Teach them Philippians chapter 4, verse 13.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

When you teach your children to connect with Jesus every day, call on Jesus in the heat of the battle and come to Jesus for healing or after a slip up, you hand them an unyielding shield that the gates of hell cannot prevail against. Oh my friend, my dear sister warrior in Christ.

You do not have to be a perfect parent or a theological scholar scholar to raise spiritually resilient children.

The moment you take these abstract concepts and put them into simple lessons that they can learn in your home, you are hardwiring your defense perimeter for generations to come. You are a guardian of your home and God has fully equipped you to teach your little army of light. Ask him to be with you and help you.
