Summary

Have you ever looked at your messy, mundane routine and wondered, "Is God speaking to me?" It is easy to assume God only speaks to leaders or the ultra-holy, leaving us to doubt our own significance. In this episode of the Arise, Women of God podcast, host Tamara K. Anderson and guest Tiffany Fletcher tackle the heart of spiritual identity and how it dictates our ability to hear Heaven. We explore the powerful "Hagar Principle," proving that God sees and speaks to us even in our loneliest wilderness moments.

Whether you are a Christian woman looking to overcome feelings of spiritual invisibility or simply seeking to deepen your prayer life, this episode is filled with beautiful insights. We discuss why Mother Teresa believed that listening isn't just a part of prayer—it’s the beginning of it. We also break down your unique "spiritual fingerprint," explaining how God communicates differently with each of us through warmth, specific thoughts, music, scriptures, or even a pit in the stomach. Plus, Tamara shares the one profound signal the adversary can never replicate: true peace. If you’re ready to move from questioning your worthiness to confidently knowing God is communicating with you, tune in to this thought-provoking conversation!

Episode Takeaways

  • The Hagar Principle: God is "the God who sees me." Even when you feel cast out or hidden in the wilderness of everyday chaos, He sees you and wants to speak with you.
  • Listening is the Beginning of Prayer: Prayer isn't just talking at God; it’s talking with Him. Making time to sit in silence and listen is where true communion happens.
  • Your Spiritual Fingerprint: God speaks to everyone differently. You might feel a warm blanket of comfort, receive a clear thought, feel a warning in your gut, or hear His voice through a specific song or scripture.
  • The Ultimate Signal of Peace: The adversary cannot replicate true peace. If you are feeling a deep sense of peace—even in the middle of a trial—that is God speaking to you.

Reflection Questions

  • Do you ever feel too "insignificant" for God to speak to you directly? How does the story of Hagar change that perspective?
  • What does your unique "spiritual fingerprint" look like? Does God speak to you most often through thoughts, feelings, music, or other people?
  • How much of your prayer time is spent talking versus listening?

Have you ever looked at your life, the messes, the mistakes, the mundane routines, and wondered, is God speaking to me? Maybe you don't doubt that he speaks to holy people or leaders, but you doubt your own significance.

You wonder if you're worthy enough to receive a personal message in the middle of your everyday chaos. Well, my friend, you are in the right place.

And by the end of today's episode, you will understand your identity as a child of light and I, and why your worthiness was never a barrier to God's voice.

We're going to help you solve spiritual invisibility by looking at the God who found Hagar in the wilderness and the woman at the well, women who probably thought they were nobodies. We're moving from why would he speak to me? To I know he is. Stay tuned. Ordinary women, extraordinary faith. When God calls, we say yes.

The Arise Women of God Podcast Podcast hello, and welcome to another episode of the Arise Woman of God podcast.

I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson, and joining me is the terrific and very talented Tiffany Fletcher, a member of our Women warriors of Light Advisory board. And today we're diving into the heart of identity and how it dictates our ability to hear.

First, we're going to discuss the Hagar principle, why he is the God who sees me even in my most lonely wilderness moments.

Second, we're going to talk about the listening threshold, why Mother Teresa believed that listening isn't just a part of prayer, it's the beginning of it.

Third, we're going to explore the spiritual fingerprint, the unique way God communicates with you through warmth, thoughts, or even a pit in the stomach. Warning.

And finally, we'll talk about the one signal the adversary can't replicate. But let's kick it off by looking at a story clear back in the Old Testament.

I love the story of Hagar.

I love how when she felt that she was being cast out, she took her son and she went into the wilderness, and there she prayed to God and God spoke to her. A servant woman. God spoke to her, and she called him the God who sees me. If God can see a servant woman in the wilderness, he can see us.

He can see us in our wilderness. He can see us in our closets. He can see us in our gardens. He can even see us in our bathrooms.

And he can speak to us and talk with us sometimes as moms. That's the only place we have where there's a quiet moment, right? And it still matters to him.

It's still he is the God who sees us and he speaks to us and he loves us so desperately and he wants us to know that he is there and he does know our name. And I think that is such a beautiful concept and something that we all need to remember probably more than we do.

He sees you exactly where you are. Isn't that great to know? He even says in Isaiah, I have called thee by thy name, Thou art mine.

Once we realize God is already looking at us through the lens of love, it changes how we approach Him. It moves us from a place of fear to a place of desire to connect with Him. And as Mother Teresa taught that desire begins with silence.

Tiffany Fletcher

00:03:36.330 - 00:04:20.270

I love that quote because it talks about how listening is the beginning of prayer. Isn't that interesting? Like, we think that prayer is like, God, I need this and I need this, and can you please do this?

And you know, is us speaking to God, but really the beginning of prayer is us being willing to sit and listen.

Like, of course we need to talk to him, but being able to listen for his voice and not just end the prayer and be like, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen, but just listening. That is when communion happens.

Like, it's not about us talking at him, it's about us talking with him and then listening for his answers and giving time for that. And I think that that's such a beautiful way that we can say our prayers in a more intentional way.

Tamara K. Anderson

Communion is a two way street. But as you start to listen, you might notice that the way that God speaks to you doesn't sound like the way he speaks to your best friend.

That's because your spiritual connection is, as you know, unique as your fingerprint. I know in my experience, God speaks.

To each of us differently. Just like we have different fingerprints from each other. Like, the way God speaks to each of us is so unique and individual.

And you can find, you know, different examples in the scriptures.

For example, on the road to Emmaus, the disciples said, said after they realized who Jesus was while he'd been walking with them, he's like, oh, didn't our hearts burn within us? So maybe for some it's that warmth in the chest.

They feel that love, perhaps of God or a witness from the Holy Ghost, this is Jesus, this is God speaking to you, right? Sometimes it's a thought that pops into your mind that, hey, do something good. Or hey, I love you. Or a warning like, hey, you shouldn't do that.

You know what I mean? But those thoughts point you to good and steer you away from evil. Generally that's How I know they're coming from God.

Tiffany Fletcher

00:05:43.510 - 00:07:25.890

Yeah, I love that. I think it is true that we. God speaks to us all in different ways, and it's important that we ask him how he speaks to us.

For me, it's a thought enlightenment or it's like a warm blanket. Like, I have a thought and I just feel warm. I just feel like it's. Yes, this is definitely a direction I need to go.

And when it's not the right thing, God always tells me in my stomach. I just feel, like, nauseous in the pit of my stomach, I'm like, oh, that is not the direction that he wants me to go at this time. That is a big no.

And God speaks to me often in music. Interestingly enough, I love Christian music.

And I. I feel like God speaks through music to me so many times about his love for me, maybe direction I should go. And. And I think that that is a really helpful way. Like, sometimes we question. Well, I don't know if that thought is mine or if it's God's, so.

But I. I find that when I listen to music or when I read scriptures with a question, that the answer always comes, and it's beautiful. Especially like scriptures. I. Sometimes I'll just open up my Bible and I'll be like, okay, God, this is my. Need you to answer this. And I'll just read.

And it. It's so strange that the answer will come. I mean, it's not strange. It's God, because that's how he speaks to us. And. And so sometimes we.

If in the traditional way of, oh, well, is that thought. Mine are heavenly fathers, then we can just go to the Scriptures. We can ask questions. And he will use the scriptures to speak to us.

He'll use music to speak to us. He'll use others even to speak to us. Sometimes an answer will come through the thought that is given to us by a friend.

And all of those are beautiful ways that he can give us the answers that we need in our life.

Tamara K. Anderson

00:07:27.570 - 00:09:06.560

That's beautiful. The only thing I would tack on to that is that feeling of peace. I love the feeling of peace. And it's the one feeling that the adversary cannot.

He cannot replicate peace. And so if you're feeling peace, that is God speaking to you. It's him comforting you.

I love the scripture where Jesus says, before he leaves his disciples, my peace I give unto you. Not as the world giveth, give I unto you. You know, let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. God can speak peace to us.

Even in troubled times. Like I know this is hard, but he can give us peace and strength to walk through trials and hard things with Him.

If you are feeling peace today, God is speaking to you. He knows your name, he sees your wilderness and he is waiting for you to come. Spend time with Him. Sit, talk and listen.
